Over nearly three decades at the University of Victoria, he supervised teams of up to 60 employees, oversaw food service for hundreds daily, and led procurement and contract negotiations with a focus on efficiency and accountability. A long-serving Union Shop Steward and regional representative, Gilles is recognized for his steady leadership, fairness, and ability to build trust across diverse teams. He also served as a volunteer firefighter, underscoring his strong commitment to safety and community.
