Process Engineering Analyst (EIT) - Rock Mechanics/Geological Engineering

Nov. 28 /2022Process Engineering Analyst (EIT) - Rock Mechanics/Geological Engineering

Full-Time on-site and off-site at mining/dig locations

Volt Carbon Technologies (VOLT) is Canadian publicly owned and operated company involved in mining and mineral processing. VOLT is introducing green mining initiatives and products to the Canadian resources industry and is developing leading edge mineral separation processes with key focus on sustainability.

At our new laboratory processing facility in Scarborough, Ontario, we primarily use a patented process of air classification to separate graphite from ore. This is exciting new technology that leverages aerodynamic properties of flake graphite and the denser, more spherical surrounding material, resulting in effective, energy-efficient, and mobile means of extracting natural graphite.

At our laboratory facility in Scarborough, we have a full-time Process Engineering Analyst (EIT) role for a graduate of Geological Engineering or transferable skills acquired from Environmental, Civil, Process or Mechanical Engineering.

This role consists of hands-on laboratory work, utilizing different machinery such as, but not limited to; air classifier, ball mill, jet mill, rock crusher, thermogravimetric analyser, and 3D printer to name a few. Occasional field work at mining and exploration sites across Canada collecting geological samples will also be part of this role. Working outdoors under the elements to collect mineral samples will be a requirement of the role, along with a valid driver’s license.

The successful EIT, will have the ability to work on rock process engineering and geotechnical projects responsible for developing cost effective, state-of-the-art engineering designs and construction solutions. If you are a collaborator with strong technical skills and field work abilities, along with communication and organizational skills to lead technical deliverables, this is the role for you. You will learn and apply advanced analytical methods and design skills to optimize and introduce Volt’s new processes.

What you can expect to learn & experience in this role:

  • Engineering analyses and design for a variety of rock engineering and geotechnical projects related to
    mining and mineral separation.
  • Rock mass characterization and assessment of geological and geotechnical conditions.
  • Planning and execution of field investigations.
Field work including visual site inspections, rock slope stability assessments, geological/geotechnical
    mapping including photogrammetry.
  • Monitoring of field activities, such as borehole drilling or installation of rock support, or detailed rock core
    logging.

Requirements to Apply:

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • University Graduate in Engineering: Geological / Mechanical / Civil/ Environmental /Process
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Comfortable in mechanical engineering fundamentals related to geology through field work or internships
  • Have experience with engineering analytical tools such as: SOLIDWORKS
  • Comfortable using machinery, tools, and 3D printers
  • Able to travel approximately 10% of the time to mining locations in Canada
  • Available for immediate start
  • Can work full-time at the Scarborough, Ontario laboratory location
  • Must be independent, self-starter and eager to meet deliverables
